What changed
China will hold the 2026 Financial Street Forum Annual Conference in Beijing from October 19 to 22, with approval from the State Council.
Beijing’s municipal government, the People’s Bank of China, national financial regulators, Xinhua News Agency and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange will co-host it. The programme will include a main forum, three thematic conferences, more than ten parallel forums, and investment-matching activities, with about 400 speakers expected from more than 40 countries and regions.
Why it matters
The conference puts Beijing’s Financial Street at the centre of China’s international financial messaging as the country begins its 15th Five-Year Plan. Its theme, “Open, Cooperative and Inclusive: Building a New Ecosystem for Global Financial Development,” signals an effort to connect policy discussion with the real economy and with debates over global financial governance.
That gives the event a wider role than a standard industry gathering. It is designed to bring regulators, financial institutions, companies and international organisations into the same room, while giving Chinese authorities a platform to explain financial policy and discuss cooperation abroad.
The practical test will come during the four-day programme. The report names no individual speakers, policy announcements, agreements or investment commitments, so the conference’s significance will depend on whether its discussions produce more than a carefully staged exchange of positions.
