What changed
China’s former securities regulator chairman Yi Huiman has been indicted on suspicion of bribery. The Qingdao People’s Procuratorate has filed the case with the Qingdao Intermediate People’s Court after the National Commission of Supervision completed its investigation.
Prosecutors allege that Yi used senior posts at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the China Securities Regulatory Commission to help others and accepted exceptionally large amounts of property.
Why it matters
This case has moved from an internal investigation into a formal prosecution. Yi was reported under investigation in September 2025 and expelled from the Communist Party and dismissed from public office in April 2026.
The allegations cover areas central to economic power: promotions, listing approvals and financing loans. That makes the case significant beyond Yi’s own career. It puts the conduct of a former senior banking and securities official before a court, rather than leaving it solely within disciplinary proceedings.
A verdict, sentence and specific transaction amounts have not been announced. Those questions now depend on the judicial process.
