What changed

Farmers & Merchants Bancorp approved a regular quarterly dividend of $0.24 per share and added a one-time $0.01 special dividend. That makes the third-quarter payment $0.25 per share, payable October 20, 2026, to shareholders registered by October 9.

The regular dividend is 4.3% higher than the previous payment and marks the company’s 32nd consecutive annual increase. The bank, which had $3.50 billion in assets at June 30, also said the special payment recognizes America’s 250th anniversary.

Why it matters

The main signal is continuity, not a sudden change in strategy. Farmers & Merchants Bancorp has paid quarterly dividends for more than 50 years, and its board is again returning a little more cash to shareholders while adding a one-off payment.

The extra penny is small, but its wording matters: it is explicitly a special dividend. That makes it different from the recurring $0.24 payment and leaves open whether any similar distribution will happen again. The announcement also does not quantify how the payment affects capital ratios, lending capacity or future distributions.

For shareholders, the practical detail is the record date. Owning shares after October 9 would not qualify for this payment, even though the cash arrives on October 20.
