What changed
A 21-year-old woman was arrested after three people were injured at an educational institution in Warsaw. A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition; two other women, aged 17 and 24, were also hurt. It was Poland’s third reported school knife attack in one week.
Why it matters
The incident puts pressure on a school system already operating under heightened security. Police had deployed nationally to schools after earlier attacks and detained 76 people, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there was “no room for compromise” on school safety.
The earlier attacks included nine people injured at a vocational school on 7 October and a school caretaker killed the following day in Leszczydół-Nowiny. That sequence explains why a single attack in Warsaw now has consequences well beyond the three victims: students, families and staff are entering schools amid a much more visible security operation.
Police said the suspected attacker was a student and initially appeared not to know the victims. Authorities have not confirmed whether the three incidents were connected. Local media reported that officials had information suggesting a possible internet challenge, but that link remains unestablished.
