What changed
Powderfinger are reuniting for an 18-date Australian tour next September, 17 years after breaking up. The Brisbane band will play four home-city shows, followed by dates in Cairns, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, with every performance staged in a stadium-sized big-top tent.
Why it matters
This is more than a reunion announcement for longtime fans. It gives people who grew up with Powderfinger’s seven albums, and a newer generation that never saw the band live, a rare chance to share the same songs in the same room.
The Friday-and-Saturday schedule points to a deliberately concentrated run rather than a sprawling return to permanent touring. Bernard Fanning has continued as a solo artist since the split, while bassist John Collins has opened two major Brisbane live venues, so the comeback brings the band back together without erasing the separate careers built in the meantime.
For now, the story is entirely Australian: no overseas dates have been announced. Ticket prices, exact capacities and demand remain unknown, but the tent format gives the band a large-scale setting across six cities without promising a longer international campaign.
