What changed
Haas will split with Esteban Ocon at the end of 2026, removing his confirmed seat for the 2027 Formula 1 season. Ocon, 30, joined Haas in 2025 after a career that includes one win and four podiums, but he now faces an uncertain future on the grid.
Why it matters
This is a direct test of whether Ocon’s experience still carries enough weight in a sport where a seat can disappear quickly. Haas says his feedback and development work helped during a major regulation change, but Oliver Bearman has had the stronger results since they became team-mates.
Bearman is 13th in this year’s championship, three places and 13 points ahead. He has also out-qualified Ocon 13-6, with an average advantage of 0.144 seconds. Last season, Bearman finished 13th and Ocon 15th.
Ocon says he is “still motivated” and intends to continue in Formula 1. The immediate fact is simpler: Haas is no longer his route into 2027, and the available alternatives are not obvious. His next races will now carry the extra pressure of an audition, whether he describes them that way or not.
