Eve Muirhead is returning to competitive curling after more than four years away. On Thursday in Aberdeen, the 36-year-old will reunite with Bobby Lammie for the Scottish Mixed Doubles Championship.
The pair won the 2022 world mixed doubles title and have never lost a competitive game together. Their longer aim is a four-year campaign towards the Alpes 2030 Games.
Why it matters
This is both a comeback and a serious test. Muirhead and Lammie arrive as the headline pairing, but they are stepping into one of the strongest Scottish championships yet, with six round-robin games before possible play-offs.
Their chemistry is proven. Their preparation is less straightforward. Lammie is based in Stirling while Muirhead trains in Preston, so they meet every couple of weeks rather than sharing the ice daily.
That makes Aberdeen more than a ceremonial return. It is the first measure of whether a partnership built around a major title can restart after a long pause. Muirhead has described the mix of excitement and nerves, while stressing that the project is longer than this weekend.
The competition runs from October 1 to 4, with selected matches streamed live. Sunday’s semi-finals and final remain possibilities, not guarantees.
