What changed
Slovenia’s national `.si` domain registry recorded 44,000 new web-address registrations in September, up from fewer than 2,000 in August. The surge followed Donald Trump’s proposal to rename artificial intelligence “Super Intelligence,” or “SI,” and included 11,000 registrations on 30 September alone. Register.si called the pace unprecedented over the previous 12 months.
Why it matters
A three-letter slogan has briefly turned a national internet suffix into a speculative asset. People registering `.si` names may be betting that businesses, agencies or technology projects will want an address matching the new “SI” language. Cyber-squatting is one possible explanation, though Register.si cautioned that Trump’s comments may not account for the entire increase.
The shift also moved beyond rhetoric. A US executive order instructed government agencies to use “SI” and “Super Intelligence” in official correspondence, websites and reports, replacing references to AI. That gives the phrase an administrative life, even if its broader adoption remains uncertain.
For now, the clearest signal is the domain rush itself: September registrations were more than 2,100% above August. Whether those names become valuable digital real estate or simply sit unused will show whether the rebrand has created a lasting vocabulary or just a very busy final day of the month.
