What changed

Ukrainian forces reportedly launched more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, including hundreds aimed toward Moscow, as Russia finished the third and final day of its first wartime parliamentary election.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called it the capital’s largest-ever drone attack. He said 450 drones were shot down near Moscow, while strikes damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building.

Why it matters

The timing made the attack impossible to separate from the election’s final day. It put Moscow’s air defenses, a major refinery and residents under pressure while Russian authorities were completing a wartime vote.

The immediate practical question is what the damage means on the ground. Officials reported damage at the refinery and a residential building, but the extent of any disruption, casualties or lasting impact was not established in the account. That leaves the scale of the attack clear in broad terms, while its consequences remain unsettled.
