What changed
US authorities are searching off Nantucket for six people after losing contact with a Gulfstream G-100 medical plane traveling from Bermuda to Boston.
The aircraft, operated by Latitude Air Ambulances, left Bermuda at 23:40 and was due at Boston Logan International Airport at 01:30. The FAA issued a search-and-rescue notice shortly after 01:00, while the Coast Guard began air and water searches.
Why it matters
This is now an active rescue operation, not simply a delayed arrival. The aircraft’s tracking data recorded a sharp descent from about 7,300 metres to 3,300 metres before communications stopped, giving search teams a last known change in the plane’s flight path.
The status and identities of the six people remain unconfirmed. No crash location or debris has been confirmed, and the reason for the altitude change and communications loss is unknown. The next crucial development will be whether rescuers locate the aircraft or establish a more precise search area near Nantucket.
