What changed

The Anti-Money Laundering Council has confirmed that a food company owned by lawyer Manases Carpio received more than P319 million from China. The confirmation, published in Manila on October 5, gives new official support to an allegation previously raised by former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

Why it matters

The key change is not the amount alone. It is that the claim now has AMLC confirmation attached to it, putting a government finding at the center of a politically sensitive case involving Carpio, the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte.

That does not yet explain why the money was sent, when the transactions occurred, whether they were lawful, or whether AMLC found wrongdoing. Those answers will determine whether this remains a disputed financial trail or becomes the basis for further legal and political action.
