What changed

Beijing’s education authorities held a Long March-themed civic education lecture on October 8 at China University of Petroleum-Beijing. The seven-part program combined live storytelling, staged performances and poetry, with primary, secondary and university students across the city watching online. The Jiangxi Yudu “Long March Source” publicity group delivered the program.

Why it matters

This was designed as more than a history lesson. Stories about soldier Xie Baojin carrying a 136-jin generator across difficult terrain and revolutionary martyr Liu Bojian writing from prison turned an official civic theme into scenes students could picture and feel.

The format also shows how Beijing is building one shared political-education track across age groups. The event was part of a wider initiative by the Beijing Municipal Education Working Committee and preparations to mark the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory.

The important next step is whether the message stays onstage. Authorities say Long March themes will be carried into classroom teaching, campus culture and social practice, linking the lecture to a broader effort to integrate ideological education from primary school through university. That gives the event a longer life than its livestream, even though its educational results and total reach remain unclear.
