What changed
Taiwan has received two F-16V fighter jets purchased from the United States and plans to receive 64 more before the end of 2026. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on October 6 that Beijing “firmly opposes” US arms sales to Taiwan.
Why it matters
The immediate change is physical: two more US-made aircraft are now in Taiwan, with a much larger delivery still planned. Politically, the response shows Beijing is treating the shipment as part of the continuing dispute over US support for Taiwan, not as an isolated delivery.
The bigger question is what follows the statement. The report gives no further Chinese measure, and it does not independently verify the delivery schedule or whether the aircraft are operational. For now, the clearest signal is a familiar one: Taiwan’s planned fighter buildup and China’s opposition are moving forward on parallel tracks.
