What changed
China’s Chinese Academy of Sciences held a science-outreach programme in Dayu County, Jiangxi, from September 27 to 30. Eight academicians and experts delivered 16 sessions at 13 schools on life science, astronomy, ocean science, rare-earth resources, artificial intelligence and scientific spirit, while 2,000 popular-science books were donated to local schools.
Why it matters
The programme puts national-level scientific expertise inside county classrooms, where access to specialist teaching can be harder to sustain. Its practical value will depend on what happens after the lectures: the organisers discussed longer-term coordination with school principals, but no measures of student participation, learning outcomes or teacher uptake were provided.
This was the second consecutive year that the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Science and Technology Innovation Development Center ran the rural-revitalisation series. The centre says it will next take similar activities to Huanjiang in Guangxi and Shuicheng and Liuzhi in Guizhou, turning a one-off school visit into a wider effort to connect science education with local development.
