What changed
Dianyang Village in Fuzhou’s Jin’an District is being reshaped into a rural tourism destination after a Fujian-Taiwan rural-development team arrived in October 2025.
The village has added:
- A 4.1-kilometre circular road and 2.3 kilometres of roads to homes
- Drinking-water upgrades, lighting and public toilets
- Waterfront and pebble paths, a pavilion and a leisure park
- Expanding farm stays, guesthouses and produce-picking activities
Why it matters
Dianyang is about an hour from central Fuzhou, with 91% forest coverage and an average elevation of nearly 700 metres. Those features make it an appealing short-trip destination, but roads and scenery alone do not make a village work as a visitor economy.
The more important change is who is being asked to run it. Architect Lin Yiqi and the Fujian-Taiwan team are working with residents on preserving old houses, managing the environment and developing tourism businesses. The stated aim is for villagers to protect and operate their own home rather than simply watch outside investment pass through.
That gives the makeover a practical test. If local businesses grow while the landscape and historic homes remain intact, Dianyang could become a model for turning rural assets into income without stripping away the reason visitors came. The longer-term financial and environmental results are still unclear.
