What changed

Ronel Buenaventura testified in Manila that a company linked to Vice President Sara Duterte transacted with companies in China. The testimony included a remittance of more than P5.6 million.

Why it matters

The transaction puts a Duterte-linked business inside an anti-money-laundering inquiry involving cross-border payments. That makes the money trail, its purpose and the identities of the companies involved central to what happens next.

What remains unclear is whether any violation was established. The testimony identifies a significant remittance, but not the company, its Chinese counterparties or the reason for the payment.
