What changed
Fangda Special Steel Technology Co., Ltd. in Nanchang is combining steel production with a 4A-rated tourism attraction. The site’s steel culture park offers factory viewing, ecological leisure and science education, backed by 634,800 square metres of green space, a 39.55% greening rate and more than 30,000 square metres of landscaped water and land.
Why it matters
The unusual part is not the visitor centre. It is the attempt to make the factory itself part of the attraction.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Fangda Special Steel invested about 800 million yuan in more than 90 environmental projects. Reported particulate, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions are below the industry’s ultra-low-emission limits.
The company has also installed more than 1,000 environmental monitoring points and over 200 professional monitoring microstations. That shifts environmental management from correcting problems after they appear toward warning and controlling them during production.
For Nanchang, the plant becomes more than an industrial site. It is also a place where residents, students and visitors can see steelmaking alongside wetlands, gardens and environmental technology. That makes the factory’s environmental claims more visible, while putting the quality of its monitoring and emissions performance under a brighter public spotlight.
The model will matter most if the green landscape and the cleaner production system continue to function together. A polished park can change how a steel plant looks; sustained monitoring and lower emissions determine whether the transformation is more than scenery.
