What changed
Guangzhou’s immigration authorities have introduced 16 measures for the 140th Canton Fair, which opens on October 15, 2026, marking the fair’s 70th anniversary. The Guangzhou General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection will add dedicated visitor lanes, multilingual services, cargo green channels and security support across Baiyun International Airport, Pazhou Passenger Port and Nansha Passenger Port.
Foreign visitors will be able to apply for 240-hour temporary entry permits at designated port areas, while a 24-hour multilingual 12367 hotline, online arrival-card filing and special arrangements for important foreign delegations aim to smooth arrivals.
Why it matters
The measures turn immigration processing into part of the fair’s operating infrastructure. Visitors can use dedicated lanes and on-site assistance; exhibitors and business travelers can get help in several languages; and cargo-carrying ships and flights will receive expedited handling, including round-the-clock processing for eligible cargo crews at Baiyun airport.
That matters because a trade fair is only as accessible as its first checkpoint. The new arrangements are meant to reduce administrative friction without leaving every visitor or shipment to navigate the system alone. A single-site filing system shared nationwide and port-level “one-stop” permit processing also gives companies a clearer route through the paperwork.
Security is being folded into the same operation. Volunteers will receive document-authentication training, while inspection officials and local police will work together on enforcement and visitor verification at the exhibition.
The practical test will come after the fair opens: the measures are clear, but the report provides no figures on visitor volumes, shorter queues, trade gains or implementation costs.
