What changed
Xpeng is targeting overseas robotaxi trials next year, followed by a wider rollout in two to three years. Vice-chairman and president Brian Gu also says the company is ramping up production of its Iron humanoid robot, starting with deployments in Xpeng stores before offering it to outside customers.
Why it matters
Xpeng is presenting two different expansion plans at once: robotaxis moving beyond China, and Iron moving from factory output into the company’s own retail network. That makes the stores an early proving ground for Iron before customers can buy or use it externally.
The robotaxi timetable is concrete, but the shape of the programme is not. Xpeng has not specified the overseas trial markets, regulatory approvals, operating scale, technical performance or commercial terms. If those pieces fall into place, next year’s trials would be the first visible step toward a broader service within two to three years.
