What changed

Zhejiang’s Yiwu-Xin’ou China-Europe freight railway handled 200,460 import and export containers by October 7, surpassing 200,000 TEUs this year.

The network runs through customs-supervised sites in Yiwu and Jinhua. Hangzhou Customs says new digital systems now cross-check logistics, declarations and transit information in real time, while domestic rail-freight charges for companies were reduced by 8.5082 million yuan in the first eight months.

Why it matters

This is more than a round-number milestone. Zhejiang’s rail link is becoming a network rather than a string of individual departures: 27 stable routes now reach more than 50 countries and over 160 cities, while operations shift from point-to-point shipping toward hub-based connections.

That change gives exporters a more structured route into markets across Eurasia. The cargo mix shows the direction clearly. Outbound trains mainly carry electronics, photovoltaic components and intelligent equipment. Return trains bring minerals, chemicals and wine, linking Zhejiang’s manufacturing base with both industrial inputs and consumer goods.

Faster customs processing matters because rail freight is only useful when cargo, paperwork and transfers move together. The real-time system and automated transit procedures are designed to reduce friction at that handoff, while the freight deductions lower part of the domestic journey’s cost for participating companies.

The reported figure does not show how quickly volumes are growing or how much the cargo is worth. But it does show a rail corridor with a widening geographic reach, a more integrated operating model and enough traffic to make the shift toward hub-and-network logistics tangible.
