What changed
A Chinese humanoid-robot startup expects a major breakthrough in “robot brains” as soon as mid-2027. But putting those systems to work inside homes could still take at least eight years.
The gap is the important detail: model development is running into a shortage of usable data, while the scale and practical abilities of any breakthrough remain unclear.
Why it matters
This is a forecast about intelligence, not a delivery date for a household robot. A stronger model in mid-2027 would not automatically mean a machine ready to navigate homes, understand messy instructions or perform reliable everyday tasks.
The data bottleneck is the hard constraint. Until developers can provide enough useful training material, progress in the model may move faster than progress toward a dependable product. For households, the plausible reading is therefore slow arrival: even if the breakthrough happens on schedule, home deployment may remain years away.
