Prime Video has ordered two Australian true-crime docuseries and a fourth season of cricket documentary “The Test,” with all three titles set to launch from 2027. This account is based on reporting by Variety.
“Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings” (working title) is a three-part series about eight backpackers travelling through Southeast Asia in late 2024. After a night out in Laos, six died; two survived, including one who lost their sight. Cineflix will produce the series for Amazon MGM Studios, using phone footage, final voice messages, survivor testimony and interviews with victims’ families, according to Variety.
Blackfella Films is producing the five-part “Madness of Three,” examining the 2022 Wieambilla killings in Queensland, in which two police officers and a neighbour were fatally shot. The series will trace the paths of Nathaniel, Stacey and Gareth Train through exclusive access, the report said.
Season 4 of “The Test,” produced by Cricket Australia, Whooshka Media and Amazon MGM Studios, will follow Australia’s men’s team in South Africa and India, at the 150th Anniversary Test and into the 2027 Ashes. The orders bring Prime Video’s stated Australian commission count to 34 since 2019.
