What changed

Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives and House of Federation began the inaugural joint session of the first year of the seventh parliamentary term in Addis Ababa on October 6, 2026.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and elected members of both Houses are attending.

Why it matters

This brings Ethiopia’s two parliamentary chambers together at the opening of a new term. That makes the session an important institutional starting point, even before any decisions are announced.

The practical meaning will depend on what the Houses discuss and whether they take action. The agenda, duration and decisions were not yet reported.
