Jubilee, FSD Africa Partner With Seven Insurtechs in Kenya

Jubilee and FSD Africa partner with seven insurtechs to expand insurance access

Africa Brief

What changed

Jubilee Group and FSD Africa are working with seven insurtechs to develop affordable insurance for Kenyan SMEs, informal workers, farmers and low-income households. Dukatech Solutions, Aura Insure Technologies, Inclusivity Solutions, DPE, Fiinovate, Agrails and Ibisa Network will spend eight weeks co-creating products before pilots begin in Kenya in November 2026.

The work will focus on:

  • Embedded and bundled insurance
  • Products built around SME ecosystems
  • Wellness and care services

Why it matters

For many small businesses and households, illness, extreme weather or another financial shock can quickly hit income. Yet insurance penetration among East Africa’s more than 10 million SMEs averages about 1%, even though those businesses account for over 70% of jobs.

The important test is not whether another insurance product can be designed. It is whether people can find, understand and afford it through channels they already use. Jubilee’s J-Hub will lead the work, combining the insurer’s reach with the seven companies’ technology and distribution ideas.

The pilots will show which approaches work in practice. If they succeed, Jubilee could later take the strongest solutions into other East African markets. The details that will determine that judgment, including pilot locations, customer numbers, premiums, coverage limits and success measures, have not yet been announced.
