What changed

Kenya’s SHINE Project is being used to strengthen mental-health support for community health promoters, whose work includes household visits, identifying health concerns, referrals and support for families in difficult circumstances. The effort responds to pressure from limited resources and expanding responsibilities.

Why it matters

Community health promoters are often the people who see health problems first, at the doorstep rather than in a facility. When their own mental-health needs are overlooked, a system built on personal contact becomes harder to sustain.

The important point is that SHINE treats support for these workers as part of health-care capacity, not a side issue. The project’s interventions, funding, scale, timeline and results have not yet been detailed, so its significance will depend on whether stronger support reaches promoters in their daily work.
