What changed
The Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria has signed an agreement with Turkey to train Nigerian gymnastics coaches and judges.
Turkey has also granted Nigeria permission to prepare its athletes there ahead of the 2027 African Games in Egypt and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Why it matters
The deal targets two parts of Nigerian gymnastics at once: the people who train athletes and the judges who assess them. That could give Nigeria a more consistent preparation base as it works toward its next major international competitions.
The athlete access is the more immediate practical gain. Nigerian gymnasts will be allowed to prepare in Turkey before the African Games and Olympics, giving the federation an agreed location for part of its build-up to both events.
The deal’s duration, funding, participant numbers and implementation schedule remain unclear. Its value will depend on whether the training and preparation access become a working programme rather than a formal agreement alone.
