What changed
Some Nigerian civil-society organisations could not secure accreditation for United Nations General Assembly sessions. They nevertheless found open side events for African NGOs, creating another route to learn, join discussions and make their presence felt at UNGA 81.
Why it matters
The distinction is important: missing formal session accreditation did not mean disappearing from the wider diplomatic conversation. Side events gave Nigerian CSOs access to related discussions, even if they did not have a seat inside the main General Assembly sessions.
That makes these gatherings more than a consolation prize. They are a parallel channel for participation, though the report identifies no specific organisations, policy outcomes or commitments resulting from them.
