What changed

Nyesom Wike remains a formidable political kingmaker, but his aggressive manoeuvring is now drawing serious resistance within APC-aligned circles.

Many APC governors have called him “politically toxic” or a “liability” and petitioned President Bola Tinubu to choose between Wike and his loyal party members. No decision from Tinubu is reported.

Why it matters

This turns Wike’s influence into a direct test of political loyalty. Tinubu is being pushed to decide whether Wike’s usefulness as a power broker outweighs the resentment his manoeuvring has created among governors in the president’s own political camp.

The pressure matters because it is no longer just a private rivalry. Governors are asking the president to draw a line between an influential ally and the party members who expect his backing. For now, the number of governors involved and any likely presidential response remain unclear.
