What changed

Orca Energy Group says its subsidiary may stop operating Tanzania’s Songo Songo gas field when its licence expires on 10 October 2026.

A proposed sale to Taifa Gas and Amber Energy Investment is still awaiting approval, leaving the field’s next operator unresolved.

Why it matters

Songo Songo supplies natural gas to Tanzanian power plants and industries. A licence expiry before the sale is approved could therefore create a handover gap around an asset tied directly to electricity generation and industrial activity.

The key distinction is that this is a warning about a possible cessation, not a confirmed shutdown. The immediate question is whether approval arrives before 10 October, and whether operations would continue under the proposed buyers.
