What changed
Tanzania’s Natural Resources and Tourism Minister, Ashatu Kijaji, has ordered improvements to roads inside Tarangire National Park in Manyara Region so they remain passable during the rainy season. After inspecting the park from October 4 to 5, 2026, she also directed the contractor at the new Mamire main entrance gate to finish the outstanding work.
Why it matters
The directive targets the point where weather can turn access into a seasonal problem. Keeping roads usable during heavy rain would give park operations a more reliable connection to visitors and nearby communities, while completing the Mamire gate would remove unfinished infrastructure from the park’s main arrival point.
Kijaji also met community groups living near Tarangire and tourists already visiting the park. Her appeal for Tanzanians from across the country to visit, alongside the road work, suggests the government is treating access as part of the park’s tourism offer rather than as a separate construction issue.
The practical test will be whether the roads remain usable through the rainy season and whether the entrance project is actually completed. The reporting gives no completion date, funding details or technical scope for either task.
