What changed
Tanzania’s Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba met UK investors and representatives of financial institutions, banks, multinational organisations, diplomatic missions, research bodies and government agencies at Chatham House in London.
During the meeting, part of a five-day working visit, he presented Vision 2050 priorities including infrastructure financing, regional cooperation, investment and a shift from exporting raw agricultural products and minerals toward domestic processing and manufacturing.
Why it matters
Tanzania is pitching a change in how its economy creates value: less shipment of raw materials, more processing and production at home. If that approach attracts capable partners, it could support new jobs and spread more of the gains from growth beyond the sectors that produce commodities.
The meeting also shows where the government is looking for help: financing infrastructure, building industrial capacity and strengthening international partnerships. Nchemba said Tanzania had moved from planning Vision 2050 to implementation and wanted partners able to deliver tangible results.
The important test now is conversion. No financing amounts, signed agreements or project timelines were reported, so the meeting marks a policy pitch rather than a completed investment deal.
