Casey Bloys appears positioned to lead the combined Paramount-Warner Bros. streaming operation after Cindy Holland, Paramount’s direct-to-consumer chair, told colleagues Tuesday that she would be leaving.
Holland’s departure removes the apparent internal alternative to Bloys as Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery move toward a merger. Bloys, chairman of HBO and HBO Max content, had made clear that he would not accept a role limited to HBO and would expect to report to combined-company CEO David Ellison.
Ellison ultimately wants HBO Max and Paramount+ merged into a single service, but the platforms are expected to remain separate for the near future. Both are profitable, and different revenue streams and distribution agreements make an immediate shutdown of either service impractical.
The companies could first offer the services as a bundle, while combining their organizations would take longer. Bloys’ final title, reporting line and full authority have not been confirmed, and the merger remains subject to legal and corporate processes.
