Christopher Abbott Says Professor X Casting Reveal Was “A Bit of a Nightmare”

Christopher Abbott has been cast as Professor X in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot, scheduled for release in May 2028.

Abbott said the casting reveal at D23 last month was both exciting and uncomfortable because some attendees did not recognize him. “It’s a bit of both, a bit of a dream and a nightmare,” he said.

He was introduced alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. Previously announced cast members include Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.

The film will reboot the mutant team after 2019’s Dark Phoenix, the last X-Men movie released by Fox. Further details about the director, plot and production schedule have not been reported.

Abbott will also appear with Florence Pugh and Mike Faist in Netflix’s East of Eden miniseries, which premieres Thursday.
