‘Elephants in the Fog’ Secures Sales Across 10 Territories

Nepal’s Oscar submission “Elephants in the Fog” has secured distribution deals across 10 territories, according to reporting by Variety.

Best Friend Forever announced agreements with MetFilm Distribution in the U.K., Filmin in Spain, Vedette in Benelux, Trigon in Switzerland, Lev Cinema in Israel, Jayantii in Australia, EFAR Films in India, PT Falcon in Indonesia and the Film Development Council of the Philippines. An inflight deal with Silk Route completes the announcement.

The new sales add to previously reported agreements covering France, Germany and Austria, Brazil and Nepal. A pan-Latin America deal is expected, while North American rights are in advanced negotiations, Variety reported.

Directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the film follows Pirati, the matriarch of a Kinnar community in a Nepalese forest village, as she investigates her daughter’s disappearance during nightly patrols against wild elephants.

“Elephants in the Fog” won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at Cannes and is screening at the Toronto Film Festival. It also leads the Asia Pacific Screen Awards nominations, with recognition for best film, best director and best performance.

The film was produced by Underground Talkies Nepal, Les Valseurs and Die Gesellschaft DGS, with several international co-producers. Its expanding distribution gives audiences across multiple regions access to a Nepalese film already positioned within the Cannes, Toronto and Oscars conversation.
