Variety

Kevin Feige was honored as Pioneer of the Year at the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation’s annual tribute, where he spoke about the shared experience of theatrical moviegoing. Variety reported that the event raised $1.9 million for film-exhibition workers needing assistance.

Disney Entertainment chairman Alan Bergman highlighted Feige’s career at Marvel Studios, saying he has produced 38 films in 17 years that generated more than $35 billion worldwide. Twelve surpassed $1 billion, while three reached $2 billion each.

Chris Pratt and Jon Favreau joined the tribute at the Beverly Hilton. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Hayley Atwell, Paul Bettany, Hailee Steinfeld, Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby also appeared in prerecorded messages. Composer Michael Giacchino contributed by video because of illness.

Feige recalled watching films at the Rialto Theater in Westfield, New Jersey, and described moviegoing as “a group of people sitting in the dark and experiencing it with others.” The remarks did not announce a new Marvel release, strategy or distribution policy.
