Macro Acquires Streaming Service AllBlk From AMC Global Media

Deadline

Macro is acquiring AllBlk, the streaming service targeting Black viewers, from AMC Global Media. The deal marks Charles D. King’s company’s entry into the direct-to-consumer business.

AllBlk launched in 2014 as UMC, or Urban Movie Classics, under businessman and BET founder Robert L. Johnson. Its parent company, RLJ Entertainment, was acquired by AMC in 2018.

The ownership transition is expected to be seamless. AllBlk will remain independent, with its existing slate and content library continuing, including the original series G.R.I.T.S., D.O.P.E. Unit, Jupiter Jones and Wild Rose.

Macro said it plans to invest in original programming, strengthen audience engagement and integrate AllBlk into its studio operations. The announcement did not disclose financial terms, an operating timetable or the scale of the planned investment.

For subscribers, the immediate priority will be continuity. For Black creators and production companies, the acquisition could create more commissioning opportunities if Macro turns its programming strategy into funded productions and specific projects over the next six to 12 months.
