Jamie Gordon and Maggie Malina have launched Rommi, a New York City-based studio focused on romance stories made for vertical viewing.
Rommi plans to commission original stories from established romance authors and adapt them for the screen before publication. Its first vertical romantic comedy, “Drive Me Mad,” based on an original idea by Ali Rosen, is planned for October.
The studio is also developing projects with authors Emma Grey and Debbie Rigaud. Its book adaptations include Brittainy Cherry’s “The Mixtape” and Kate Robb’s “This Spells Love.”
Gordon will serve as CEO, overseeing Rommi’s strategy and business operations. Malina, the former head of scripted programming at MTV/VH1, will lead content development and creative strategy.
Rommi is partnering with Bookish Media, led by Morgann Book and Thomas Johnston, to co-produce and collaborate on its growing slate. The studio’s stated focus is on serving romance audiences through short-form, mobile-friendly entertainment.
