What changed

NFL week four left the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings unbeaten at 4-0. Kansas City beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27, San Francisco beat Denver 24-14 and Minnesota edged Miami 15-10. New England also stunned Buffalo 29-26, with Drake Maye throwing three touchdown passes for 269 yards.

Why it matters

The Chiefs survived a real test. Las Vegas led 13-10 entering the fourth quarter, but Kenneth Walker ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including two scores in 19 seconds. Kansas City forced a fumble immediately after the second touchdown, then held on when Kirk Cousins was intercepted on the final play.

That win keeps Kansas City in the early Super Bowl conversation, while the Raiders look far more dangerous than last season’s three-win team. The Chiefs now face the Los Angeles Chargers, who are 0-4 after losing 30-23 to Seattle.

San Francisco’s win was tighter than the score suggests. The game was tied 3-3 late into the third quarter before Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle supplied the decisive touchdowns. Brock Purdy has 11 touchdown passes, one interception and has not been sacked through four games.

Minnesota has taken a different route to the same record. The Vikings beat Miami with five field goals from Will Reichard, a 15-10 grind that says as much about their resilience as any explosive victory can.

Maye’s response may be the weekend’s sharpest individual turn. After six interceptions and one touchdown pass across New England’s first three games, he answered Buffalo with three touchdown throws and a late win over Josh Allen’s Bills. The unbeaten records are impressive, but whether any of these teams can sustain them or reach the Super Bowl remains open.
