What changed

Wales lost 0-1 to Denmark in the Nations League after Rasmus Hojlund converted a 75th-minute penalty.

It was Wales’ third defeat in four matches during the new 10-day, four-game international window. The result leaves Craig Bellamy’s side with three points from four Group A4 matches, though Wales sit third on head-to-head record against Norway.

Why it matters

Bellamy’s complaint is bigger than one penalty. Wales entered the camp short of key players, including Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dylan Lawlor and Harry Wilson. David Brooks also dropped out after the opening defeat by Portugal. Dan James was not fit enough to play against Denmark, while Ben Davies was withdrawn late.

That left Bellamy trying to manage a squad through four demanding matches in ten days. His view is that the schedule favours nations with enough depth to rotate players without weakening the team. That is an assessment, not proof that the workload caused this defeat, but the pattern is hard for Wales to ignore: three losses in four games, with injuries narrowing their options.

Denmark had the sharper finish, but Wales were already struggling to generate energy and chances. Danny Ward made two fine saves before conceding the penalty, and Bellamy said Denmark’s physical running had steadily increased the pressure.

The next test arrives quickly. Wales travel to Norway next month, then host Portugal three days later. Their third-place position keeps the campaign alive, but the schedule leaves very little room for a depleted squad to recover.
