What changed

Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, are exploring new investment options, including a potential sale of a controlling interest, less than two years after taking over the club.

TFG completed the 2024 takeover in a deal believed to be worth more than £400m. On 9 October 2026, it said it had prioritised stability, investment and the completion of Everton’s new stadium, and that the time was right to consider the club’s “next chapter”.

Why it matters

This puts Everton’s ownership back into motion just as TFG says the club’s main foundations are in place. A change of control could reshape who funds and directs the club, but there is no confirmed buyer, agreed sale, valuation or transaction structure.

The timing makes the stadium central to the story. TFG presents its completion last year as a milestone that allowed it to look beyond rescue and stabilisation. Whether that becomes the platform for a sale will depend on the identity of any interested party and the terms of a deal.

For now, Everton has an owner considering its next move, not a completed takeover.
