What changed
A black Mercedes crashed on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham near Hull City’s training ground on 1 October. The car, understood to belong to midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath, 24, was pictured on its side and reportedly struck a resident’s car.
Hull City said no one was harmed. Humberside Police said emergency services were called at 08:30 GMT. It is the second reported crash involving a Hull player on the same road in three weeks, after teammate Sorba Thomas was involved in a crash there in September.
Why it matters
This is no longer just a footballer’s roadside incident. For people living on Millhouse Woods Lane, two crashes involving Hull players in such a short period have turned an ordinary school-run road into a clear safety concern.
One resident said her wife and children had been walking nearby shortly before the crash. Another, Tracy Evans, said she has spent about 10 years asking for the speed limit to be reduced, pointing to children and parents using the road around school time.
The club’s immediate message is reassuring: nobody was hurt. But the bigger question is whether the repeated incidents prompt action on the road. If residents’ concerns lead to new measures, this crash may become a turning point. If not, the damaged cars and the image of a Mercedes lying on its side will remain warnings without a response.
