What changed

Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity will contest Saturday’s 2026 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford. Whoever wins will become only the sixth club to lift the trophy there, joining Wigan, Leeds, St Helens, Bradford and Hull KR.

Why it matters

This is a first chance at Grand Final glory for both clubs, but their paths could hardly feel more different.

Wakefield arrive after a striking semi-final win over Wigan, built on a powerful pack and fast, skilful backs. It is their first final, and they have not won the league title for 58 years. Coach Daryl Powell knows that a brilliant semi-final is not enough: Wakefield must produce another high-level performance when the margin for error is smallest.

Warrington carry the weight of a club that has come close without finishing the job. Their captain, George Williams, will lead them into a final where the prize is not merely another appearance but a place in the sport’s short list of winners.

Wakefield have their own emotional fuel. Tom Johnstone returned to the club in 2025 after losing a Grand Final with Catalans, while veteran back-rower Jay Pitts is approaching retirement after a career rooted in Wakefield. For both sides, Saturday is a chance to turn a long wait into the defining night of their club’s recent history.

The result is still open. That is the point of this final: one established contender or one fast-rising outsider will leave Old Trafford with a first Super League Grand Final win.
