Richard O’Sullivan, British Sitcom Star, Dies Aged 82

Richard O’Sullivan, the British sitcom actor known for playing Robin Tripp in Man About the House and Robin’s Nest, has died aged 82, according to Deadline’s report, which cites the Royal Variety Charity.

The charity said O’Sullivan died peacefully, surrounded by close family, shortly after 6 a.m. local time at Brinsworth House in Twickenham, London. It said he had lived at the care home for former entertainers for 23 years following a stroke.

Deadline reported that O’Sullivan’s Robin Tripp made him a familiar face to British television audiences in the 1970s. The character later helped inspire John Ritter’s Jack Tripper in ABC’s Three’s Company, a remake of Man About the House.

Born in Chiswick, west London, on May 7, 1944, O’Sullivan began acting as a child in 1953’s The Yellow Balloon. His later credits included The Young Ones, Wonderful Life, Cleopatra and the title role in Dick Turpin, according to Deadline.

The Royal Variety Charity said it was “deeply saddened” by the death of the actor. The report did not provide funeral or memorial details.
