“Saturday Night Live U.K.” returns to Sky on Sept. 12 for its second season, with the cast promising broader comedy and more adult material after a debut season that earned solid reviews, 1.9 billion social-media impressions and a renewal, according to Variety. This account is based on reporting by Variety.
Jack Shep said he wants “bigger swings and some sex sketches,” describing the desired tone as more “raunchy, crude, lewd” and pun-filled. Paddy Young, meanwhile, joked that the performers would prefer less backstage activity so there is more time for sketches.
The returning cast includes Shep, Young and Al Nash, while Freddie Meredith has joined the original 11-person lineup. Jeff Goldblum will host the season launch, and Amelia Dimoldenberg is scheduled to host episode three.
The cast also discussed the demands of the production, including backstage mishaps in which performers sliced their hands open. Variety’s report does not establish whether those incidents will affect the new season.
The series has not confirmed whether Shep’s Princess Diana character will return. For season two, the performers said they have a clearer sense of the format while still working within the weekly pressure to make each sketch strong enough to reach the broadcast.
