New updates coming to Apple Creator Studio

What changed

Apple introduced updates to Apple Creator Studio on September 29, spanning Pixelmator Pro, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform.

The headline changes are:

  • Pixelmator Pro for iPad now includes Mac-style Select and Mask tools for refining tricky edges such as hair and fur.
  • Final Cut Pro and Motion on Mac can adjust focus points and depth of field in Cinematic video captured natively on iPhone 18 Pro.
  • Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform gain new templates, collaboration features, and creative tools.
  • Compressor adds HEVC and MPEG-4 export presets for social sharing.

Why it matters

Apple is tightening the handoff between capture, editing, presentation, and collaboration. A video shot on an iPhone 18 Pro can now carry its Cinematic effects into a Mac editing workflow, where editors can reshape focus and depth instead of treating the original capture as fixed.

Pixelmator Pro’s iPad update is similarly practical. Select and Mask is the sort of feature that matters when a clean cutout is the difference between a usable product image and a visibly rough one. New templates cover sports, business, product launches, and podcasts, giving creators ready-made starting points rather than a blank canvas.

The productivity updates push Apple Creator Studio further toward an integrated workbench. Keynote can generate presentation images tailored to a deck, while Pages and Numbers add new templates and collaboration tools. Numbers also gains trigonometry, statistics, and logic functions, extending its reach into more demanding spreadsheet work.

Freeform gets the most structural refresh. Boards adapt automatically to Dark Mode, folders organize them into collections, and collaborators can be invited more easily. Apple Intelligence can rewrite, proofread, and summarize handwritten notes. In visionOS 27, users can pull images, videos, sticky notes, shapes, and 3D models from a board into their space and view 3D models together.

The useful caution is that this is an announced feature set, not a performance verdict. The announcement gives no release timing, pricing changes, subscription figures, or independent results, so the practical value will depend on how these tools behave in real workflows once available.
