What changed
Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, its first foldable iPhone. Opened, it has a 7.6-inch inner display and is described as the thinnest iPhone ever; closed, its 5.4-inch outer display is built for everyday use.
Why it matters
This is Apple moving the iPhone from a single-screen device into a two-mode computer. The larger display is designed for content, gaming and multitasking, while the smaller outer screen keeps the phone usable when folded.
The nano-texture finish is meant to reduce glare, which points to a practical problem foldables need to solve: a large screen is only useful if it remains comfortable to view in ordinary conditions. The bigger question is whether the hardware can make that flexibility worthwhile once pricing, availability, technical specifications and durability are known.
