What changed

Google is launching Guided Vision in Gemini Live on compatible Android devices today, October 1, 2026. Share your phone’s camera, and Gemini can describe what it sees in real time, from fine print and nearby objects to details in your surroundings.

Why it matters

This turns Gemini Live from a voice assistant into a camera-guided interpreter. Point it at small text, an unfamiliar object or a cluttered scene, and the AI can explain what is in view through audio.

That makes the feature potentially useful wherever visual information is hard to parse quickly. It also raises the practical questions that will decide whether this is genuinely useful or merely impressive in a demo: which Android devices support it, which languages work, how fast the descriptions arrive, and how reliably the system reads or identifies what the camera sees. Those limits were not specified at launch.
