What changed
Google Gemini or Google Cloud is named as the primary AI platform by 48% of organizations already running AI in production, according to an August survey of companies with at least 100 employees.
That combined share is more than twice OpenAI’s, putting Google ahead in the reported measure of primary platform choice.
Why it matters
This is a useful distinction in a crowded AI market: the result concerns the platform organizations say they rely on most, not every model they use or how much they spend. Still, among companies that have moved AI into production, Google’s combination of Gemini and Cloud is the clearest choice in the survey.
For technology buyers, the signal is less about a single model winning and more about infrastructure becoming part of the decision. The survey covered how organizations choose, operate and evaluate AI infrastructure, so Google’s lead spans the platform around the model as well as the model itself.
The exact OpenAI share, sample size and respondent mix were not provided, which limits how precisely the gap can be measured. But the broad result is clear: production AI adoption is not translating automatically into a single-vendor lead for OpenAI.
