What changed

Google has released Google AI Edge Foresight, a free experimental macOS app that transcribes meetings and audio files entirely offline. It uses the company’s on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model and requires no stated cloud connection for processing.

Why it matters

Offline transcription changes where meeting audio needs to go: the app can process it on the Mac instead of sending it elsewhere. That could make local recording more practical for people handling sensitive conversations, though the release does not yet establish its accuracy, supported languages, hardware requirements or privacy controls.

The important word is “experimental.” Google has demonstrated a useful direction, but not yet a dependable replacement for established transcription tools. Until those practical details are clear, the app is best understood as a free test of what on-device AI can do, not a finished workplace system.
