What changed
A new open-source command-line tool called RemoveMacAI can delete Apple Intelligence models from a Mac, potentially freeing up 12GB of storage.
The tool arrives after Apple removed the single Apple Intelligence disable switch in macOS 27. The models remain on disk, while the controls are now scattered across several settings panes.
Why it matters
This turns Apple Intelligence into a storage decision, not just a feature preference. Mac users who do not want Apple’s AI tools may still be carrying their models locally, even after switching off related features.
RemoveMacAI offers a direct cleanup route, but it is not clear whether deletion can be reversed or whether Apple officially supports it. Its compatibility, safety and actual storage savings may also vary between Macs.
The broader lesson is fairly simple: disabling a feature does not necessarily remove its footprint. On a machine where 12GB matters, that distinction is hard to ignore.
